Braving the unseasonal weather, we headed out for the first bike tour of spring 2013. Although the season of bloom has officially started, snow is still covering the hills around Edinburgh.
Prepared with gloves and warm jackets, we headed off from Bonaly Country Park for the Sky to Sea tour. With the skies clearing and the snow finally settling, it was looking good!
The cruisy route, which is more or less all the way down hill, was busy with other cyclists, walkers and dogs, all enjoying the cautious sunrays.
The lush scenery along the Water of Leith was starting to show the first signs of blossoming, ducks were courting, and birds were singing all around; spring was definitely here!!
Along the way, we stopped off at the Water of Leith Visitor Centre ( http://www.waterofleith.org.uk/centre/ ), for some refreshments and also to have a look around and find out a bit more about the Water of Leith. It has a great interactive exhibition with lots of water, and an informative DVD (projected in a well!!) about this beautiful river.
By the time we arrived in Leith, the sun had shed it’s shyness and was beaming down, living up to ‘Sunshine on Leith’ as sung by the Proclaimers!
A well deserved drink on the Shore of Leith at The Granary ( http://www.granaryleith.co.uk/ ) was a perfect end to a perfect day!!
