All bikes that come through our workshop endure the same rigorous safety checks our own hire bikes get. You’ll be safe in the knowledge that your bike has been serviced and repaired by a fully qualified mechanic at our workshop close to Dalkeith in Midlothian, near Edinburgh.

We strive to offer our customers an affordable, hassle-free service, with a friendly attitude. Here’s what we feel makes us stand out from our competitors:

  • Uplift and drop off service at a convenient time that suits the customer within the City of Edinburgh, Midlothian and parts of the Scottish Borders and East Lothian.
  • We’ll fit your own components and only charge for labour, if the parts are packaged new and meet all the appropriate safety standards.
  • All bikes serviced by us are safety checked, cleaned (Silver and Gold service), with cables and chain lubricated.
  • We will not carry out any remedial work without the customer’s consent. We ask a few questions about the bike and give it a brief check before taking it to our workshop. This helps diagnose any problems before the bike is collected. This process does not eliminate but can avoid costly surprises. Any maintenance advisories or safety issues regarding the bike will be passed onto the customer in writing on return of the bike.
  • We will do our upmost to return bikes as quickly as possible. A straightforward servicing will usually require 2 to 3 working days turnaround time or 4 to 5 working days if replacement parts need to be ordered.

  • Remove cranks, inspect and grease bottom bracket (loose bearings or cartridges replaced at part price if excessively worn)

We have provided the following price list as a guide to our labour charges for our most common repairs. Please note this list is not exhaustive. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Steering:

  • Headset bearings – £10.00
  • Headset cups – £15.00
  • Fit replacement handlebar grips/tape – Straight bar grips £7.00 / Drop bar tape £25.00

Drivetrain:

  •  Bottom bracket – £10.00 for cartridge and cups / £15.00 for pressfit
  • Chain ring – £5.00 per chain ring plus £7.00 for removal of chainset
  • Chainset – £7.00
  • Chain – £7.00
  • Cassette – £7.00

Wheels & Tyres:

  • Inner tube – £5.00
  • Tyre – £5.00
  • True wheel – £15.00
  • Hub bearings – loose £15 / Cartridges from £20
  • Spoke replacement – from £4.00 per spoke plus £15.00 for wheel true (Price includes cost of commonly used spokes)
  • Wheel build – from £40.00

Brakes:

  • Replace rim or disc brake pads – £7.00 per set
  • Hydraulic brake bleed – from £15.00 per brake (price includes brake fluid)
  • Brake cable – £13.00 (price includes brake cable, outer cable and noodles)
  • Disc rotor – £7.00 per rotor
  • Cable actuated brake lever – £7.00 for straight bar / £14.00 for drop bars
  • Cable actuated ‘V’, Cantilever or Calliper brakes – £7.00 per brake
  • Hydraulic brake set – from £15.00 per brake

Gears:

  • Gear cable – external route £12.00 / road bike and internal route £20.00 (Price includes brake cable and outer cable)
  • Gear shifter – £7.00 for straight bars / £14.00 for drop bars
  • Front / Rear derailleur – £7.00
  • Straighten or replace gear Hanger – £7.00

DELIVERY CHARGES:

The Tartan Bicycle Company endeavour to keep delivery charges free or down to a minimum. However, please be aware we have a minimum value of £39, the cost of a basic service, worth of work to be carried out before qualifying for our delivery service. You’ll likely find that even with these charges, our prices are still cheaper than our competitors on the High Street.

  • Musselburgh, Loanhead, Lasswade, Humbie, Pentcaitland – £5.00*
  • Roslin, Portobello and South East Edinburgh – 10.00*
  • Penicuik, Leith, Morningside, City Centre – £15.00*
  • Lauder, Rest of Edinburgh including Balerno – £20.00*

*Price includes both uplift and delivery or a one off home visit. We only charge for the first bike, so two or more bikes go free. Please contact us if you live in an area not mentioned or you are unsure about any prices.
